Where to find Help
Students invariably need help from time to time. The following is a guide to knowing where to look and who to see for information.
Firstly, make sure you are familiar with the contents of this web site.
If you are studying at the Australian campus, and after checking the web pages, your problem is:
- Of an administrative nature to do with course or program enrolments -contact the Faculty office in the EF building who will direct you to the appropriate person.
- Of an academic nature:
- attend a tutorial/laboratory session and ask the tutor/demonstrator there; or
- ask the tutor/demonstrator at their office. Perhaps you will need to email them/phone them first to make an appointment;
- Anything else, or if the above suggestions do not solve your problem - contact the lecturer. The preferred times for this are after lectures or during advertised office hours, although you are also welcome to email to make an appointment.
If you are studying at PSB Academy should consult with the Singapore contacts for assistance.
Workloads
A word on workloads: As a ten credit point subject, ELEC2400 is one quarter of a full-time load of 40 credit points per semester. If a full time study load is equated to 40 hours per five day week (an arguably modest figure, particularly for engineering students), then ELEC2400 should be consuming (at least) 10 hours and more than one full day per week - every week.
As an approximate guide, a minimum additional four hours per week should be spent on:
- reviewing the material covered in lectures - two hours per week;
- preparing for laboratories and tutorials - two hours per week;
- preparing for quizzes or concentrating on areas causing difficulty (this latter group will probably be consumed in "bursts").
The tutorial/laboratory sessions, then, represent only one-third of the total time you should be spending on learning the relevant subject material outside of lectures. It will be virtually impossible for you to cover the exercises expected of you in the prescribed sessions alone.
